TRIPP LAKE CAMP HISTORIAN SPEAKS AT ANNUAL MEETING

Claire Walker, self-declared keeper of history of the Tripp Lake Camp, treated our group to a brief story of the camp’s beginnings and its ideals to the present time, while a muted video of campers and their activities played in the background.

Claire came to the camp with her husband, Gerry, almost 30 years ago, he as caretaker, she as supervisor of waitresses/ housekeepers and later, purchasing agent of supplies. All this followed her career in medical technology and as a math/science teacher. The campers, she explained, come from all over the U.S. and have great memories of the camp well into adulthood. Activities are taught by the best in their fields and the girls have many from which to choose. Most of the employees come from overseas because of the high rate of employment in the US.

New members Betty and Gene Fuller

Our second speaker was Lara Bold, an Americorps Volunteer, who had generated a loosestrife map indicating where stands occur around the lake. Copies were distributed to members in the hopes that it would help in eradicating the invasive plant, Purple Loosestrife, She instructed members on methods of removal. (It’s hoped that a lot was removed this summer, but efforts will be ongoing until it is eliminated. TLIA tee’s or sweatshirts were presented to the speakers as thank-you’s.

Winners of the annual raffle, headed by Peg and Dick Harris, were picked at the conclusion of the meeting. They were:
