MAINE CONSERVATION SCHOOL WINNERS

TLIA awarded two scholarships to fourth graders from Poland Community School to attend Maine Conservation School in Bryant Pond for one week each this summer. The winning essays, “Why I want to go to Maine Conservation School and what I hope to bring back to the community” were read by judges Marion and Claire Chesley, long-time residents of Tripp Lake. This was the third year TLIA has run the contest in the belief that educating our youngsters about conservation practices will reap rewards to all. TLIA underwrites the cost of $300 for each student, with parents paying $25.

The winners,  Devin Goyette and Brandie Phillips, each chose different groups of interest.  Brandie’s group adopted a section of the forest for recreation and discovery while Devin’s group gained skills and knowledge to safely enjoy Maine’s woods and waters.  School Principal P. Campbell read the winning essays at an assembly in May and presented the youngsters with certificates.

The contest is open to children, grandchildren, relatives and friends of the Tripp Lake Association as well as students at the Poland Community School.  We urge youngsters who are entering fourth grade and are interested in spending a week at this outstanding Conservation Camp on Lake Christopher to apply next Spring.  Information will be sent to all members prior to the contest.
