LONG-AWAITED TRIPP LAKE WATERSHED MANAGEMENT PLAN AVAILABLE  THIS SUMMER

TLIA’s  Watershed Management Plan, in the works for the past two years, is nearing completion and will be distributed this summer to residents of Tripp Lake and all who live in its watershed.   It’s a long-term strategy for protecting our lake by creating a comprehensive document that will 1) provide a better understanding of Tripp and the influences that affect it and 2) will help guide local action for protection of this special resource into the future.

A committee has worked diligently with Phoebe Hardesty (Androscoggin Soil and Water Conservation District), Roberta Hill and Scott Williams (Land and Watershed Resource Management Associates),  Jessie Mae MacDougall (Maine Department of Environmental Protection), Fergus Lea (Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments), Arthur Dunlap (Code Enforcement Officer, Poland) to plan public meetings, organize surveys and questionnaires and help document the concerns of those living in the watershed.  The Committee members were Susan Carbone, Laurie Levine, Nancy McCann (Tripp Lake Camp) Barbara Shapiro, and  Bill and Gerri Tinkham.

The Document will provide background information about Tripp Lake and its watershed, existing and potential threats to the lake and the systems already in place to protect it.  The “heart” of the document, however,  is the Action Plan, which incorporates input from members of the lake community and ideas for addressing those concerns.  It will help provide guidance for the implementation of the recommended actions.

A final survey/questionaire was sent to all in the watershed in April asking for final thoughts and input before the Plan is put into print.  We appreciate all who have helped and supported this venture and look forward to receiving the final document.
