Once again, two students from the Poland Elementary
School won one-week scholarships to the Maine Conservation School in
Bryant Pond this past summer. They were picked from 38 fourth graders
who entered our essay contest last Spring. The winners were selected
by TLIA members Marion and Claire Chesley who read and re-read all the
entries. To Ricky Bryant and Alexis Wentworth,
our heartiest congratulations! We also thank the Poland Community
School administration, the Grade Four teachers, students and their
families for their support in this outreach project. TLIA members are
delighted to award this wonderful summer experience to deserving
youngsters and we hope to continue the project for years to come.
Both Alexis and Ricky wrote us a notes of thanks.
Alexis enjoyed swimming, kayaking, making new friends (her roommates)
and thought the food was good! Ricky also enjoyed canoeing, kayaking,
games, sports and the whole camp! We’re delighted it was a positive
experience and that they both bring back to Poland new observations
about our environment.
As a result of our program, we were awarded a
Certificate of Appreciation by the MCS at their first annual Sponsor
Appreciation Dinner at the Bryant Pond campus.
