DEMONSTRATION PROJECT EXTENDED UNTIL JULY, 2000

Because some projects still remained unfinished at summer’s end, an extension has been granted for our Demonstration Project #319. The Project, originally scheduled for completion in December, has been extended until the end of June, 2000.

The thrust of this Project was to offer technical advice to lake dwellers, advice on how to fix roads/ driveways, and buffer lakeshore property. Over two dozen requests were received and Cynthia Kuhns (LWRMA), Pheoebe Hardesty (AVSWCD), Karen Hahnel (DEP), Kay Nichol (NCRS) and others responded to each and every one. Professional advice and several options were offered to each landowner with a write-up, including detailed plans and sketches, following each visit. Because of the number of requests, some write-ups were late arriving and subsequent property work late in getting started. Those who requested and received technical advice were:

Several of these sites were picked as Demonstration Projects by the Steering Committee and will be open

for inspection for a few years following completion. They are the Getchell’s, Tinkham’s, LaFlamme’s,

Tillson’s, Smith’s, Harvey’s, the Fernald Road and the Public Beach. Our matching portion of the

Grant, $5000, will be divvied up and each of the recipients will receive amounts previously agreed to in a

contract. They, in turn,must spend equal amounts on the project. The Town and State were involved in
