In late September, TLIA received a
Certificate of Appreciation from the Maine Conservation School. The
Board of Directors thanked us for our continuous support at their Annual
Sponsor Appreciation Dinner on September 20. We send two students each
summer to the Camp at an approximate cost of $450 each.
For nearly 50 years, the School has
sought to strengthen young peoples’ and teachers’ relationships to the
natural world with a combination of outdoor fun, practical woodswise
skills and “hands-on” conservation education. The Center’s director,
Scott Olsen, invites anyone to visit the camp next summer.
Following are excerpts from letters
written by last year’s winners, Johanna Moody and Melinda Carmichael,
both students at Poland Elementary School.
Johanna writes: “ Thanks for
sponsoring my stay at the Maine Conservation School. I really enjoyed
swimming and night hikes and sleeping in comfortable bunks. I had lots
of fun and would like to come back again. Thank you so much!”
Melinda writes: “Thank you for
sponsoring my stay at the Maine Conservation School. I liked swimming
and hiking. I met really nice friends and learned about motor boats and
parts of a paddle!”
‘Nuff said.
