I want to thank Harriet
Doolittle, Judy Wagner, Dorothy Murray, Ann Sauer and Sue and
Dick Barry for joining in this year’s BIRDCOUNT.
Here is the list of birds that we
saw this past summer on Tripp Lake:
Canada Geese, Bald Eagle, Osprey,
Common Loon, Mallard, Black Duck, Piliated Woodpecker, Great Blue Heron,
Hairy Woodpecker, Downey Kingfisher, Comorant, Red-breasted Nuthatch,
White-breasted Finch, Mourning Dove, Blue Jay, American Crow, Baltimore
Oriole, Chipping Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Tree Swallow, Barn Swallow,
Tufted Titmouse, Ruby-throated hummingbird, Common Grackle, Herring
Gull, Ring-billed Gull, Northern Goshawk, Rusty Blackbird,
Chestnut-sided Warbler, Eastern Phoebe, Catbird, Red-eyed Vireo, Spotted
Sandpiper, Junco and Turkey. Forty-four species of birds! Next year,
YOU should help us “Birdwatchers of Tripp Lake” and we’ll see even
more species.
Harriet reported that she found
Golden Retriever fur in the bird house where the tree swallows had
nested. Her beautiful dog had plenty of fur to share. I had a family
of chickadees in my birdhouse and two families of barn swallows in the
eaves. The Manginis spotted two beautiful eagles posing on a birch tree
on Jordan Shore Drive. Sue and Dick Barry have been lucky enough to
see, as well as hear, the Piliated Woodpecker.
HAPPY BIRDING!…Judy King
