BIRD-A-THON 2004

LittleBird:  Important barometer of lake's health

The results of our first TLIA bird watchers’ contest are in and Harriet Doolittle is our winner!  She spotted 30 species of birds this summer.  She also heard a Great Horned Owl but didn’t see it.

 Other participants included Peggy and Dick Harris, Ann Sauer and Julia Ladner, Dell and Judy King and Marion and Dorothy Berry.  Ester Tucker called in when she spotted two Cormorants on her dock.

 

Here is the list of species spotted on Tripp this summer:  Song Sparrow,White Throated Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow, English Sparrow, Gold Finch, Purple Finch, House Finch, Common Loon, Eastern Kingbird, Phoebe, Peewee, Robin, Tree Swallow, Cliff Swallow, Chickadee, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Blue Jay, Northern Baltimore Oriole, White Breasted Nuthatch, American Bittern, Common Grackle, Rusty Blackbird, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Canada Geese, Mallard Ducks, White-breasted Nuthatch, Red-wing Blackbird, Mourning Dove, Great Blue Heron, American Bald Eagle, Osprey, Downy Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Redheaded Woodpecker, Belted Kingfisher, Crow, Chimney Swift, Herring Gull, Ring-billed Gull, Cedar Waxwing, Starling, flicker, Common Merganser, Black Duck, Cowbird, Cormorant and Cardinal.
