Super Raffle Slated for Next Summer

Fundraising seems to occupy an inordinate amount of time, but it’s all for a good cause. What better way than to buy chances for some terrific gifts? Three of our Board members, Ed Hinkley, Terry King and Marion LaFlamme have volunteered to chair a raffle. Prizes will be 5-6 good gifts; the raffle books will be sent out next Spring and winners will be picked at our Annual Meeting on July 10, 1999.

We hope you’ll either sell the raffles when we send them or purchase them yourselves. Thanks, in advance, for your continued support.

Life Jacket Safety

Warden Stone awarding citation to Mike Shapiro

Game Warden Rick Stone nabbed his prey the last weekend in August. Following several boats around the Lake, he politely awarded citations, good and bad, to boaters.

Kids who wore lifejackets were awarded citations in the form of dessert coupons from MacDonald’s. However, boat-owners who’d let their registrations lapse were awarded the costly kind. The warden was a true gentleman and no one seemed to mind that he’d been caught. His was a gentle, but expensive, reminder.

Gratefully Said: Thanks for Donations

Do you want to remember someone in a special way? I suggest making a donation to TLIA in honor of his/her birthday or an anniversary. Last summer, I was so honored. Friends and family surprised me by making donations in honor of my "special" birthday, which totaled over $400! I couldn’t have been more pleased…for charity is a noble thing. There was nothing I really needed, and TLIA benefited from my longevity.

I thank you all for your generosity. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Keep it up!

Invasive Plants

Guess what? We’re already thinking Summer ’99. Scott Williams, aquatic biologist, who tests our Lake every other year, will be our guest speaker on Saturday, July 10. His topic, Invasive Plants, includes slides and descriptions of specific invaders, such as Eurasian Milfoil and Zebra Mussels, which are deleterious to the health of a lake. Most States east of the Great Divide already have afflicted lakes. Learn to identify and prevent this from happening in your lake.

Circle your 1999 calendar for this date. More in the Spring Newsletter.
