SUMMER SOCIAL SEASON

Engagement party included Smith's & Hinckley's.

Conant Family reunion

Few things are more fun than entertaining family and friends in the summer. Here’s a sampling of the Tripp Lake social season.
Bobby and Jackie Misenheimer’s son Jeff and daughter-in-law Laura were married in May at the beautiful Wolf Cove Inn. The young couple now live in Panama City, Florida.
Annette Lee, of the Klondike Rd., hosted the 107th Conant Family Reunion this past August. In spite of the afternoon showers, 75 plus enjoyed one happy get together.
Nancy and Bob Hutchinson and Nancy’s brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Kathy Carroll, of Jordan Shore Drive held a wedding reception on July 24 for the Carroll’s daughter, Dawn Marie, and her husband, Jeff Hayes. The young couple reside in Carbondale, ILL.
Babs and Mike Shapiro of the Garland Swamp Rd. hosted an engagement party on August 22 for their son, Scott, and his fiance, Lindy Gutknecht, both of whom live and work in Maui. They’ll be married there in March.

NEW SAFETY SIGNS IN SPRING

Peg Harris suggested, at our last Board meeting, that we erect " SLOW—CHILDREN PLAYING" signs at strategic spots on Jordan Shore Drive and Garland Swamp Road. It was voted upon and passed that we order six 18"x24" signs at $33 each.

Donations from individuals to pay for them will be gratefully accepted. Two of our members, Dick Harris and Ed Hinkley, have already offered. Want to help? Send your check to TLIA, P.O. Box 33, Poland, ME 04274. Thanks!

TELEPHONE SCAMS

We all know there are scam artists looking for ways to get access to our credentials: beware and don’t get caught off-guard without thoroughly investigating.

A recent (and older) scam has recently resurfaced via the telephone. If someone calls and identifies himself as an AT&T (or other phone company) technician who is conducting a test on your phone line and asks you to press 90# and hang up, DON’T! This would give them full access to your telephone line thereby allowing them to place long-distance calls billed to your home phone number. This particular scam has been originating from many local jails/prisons. The person reporting this verified the information with several telephone companies. SO, beware. Do not press nine, zero, pound sign (90#) for anyone!

BARLEY STRAW REVISITED

A post-script for our Spring column on barley straw and its effectiveness in controlling algae: Scott Williams, at our annual meeting, recommended against using this impractical method in our lake. His determination is that it may be practical in small ponds, but questionable for larger ones. It also requires a great deal of time and attention and a permit. So, instead, let’s work on prevention--- controlling runoff and pollutants with buffers before they enter the lake.

RICKER MEMORIAL LIBRARY DONATION

TLIA voted, at the annual meeting in July, to donate $100 to the Ricker Library as a thank-you for allowing us space for our annual meeting. The staff was most grateful and the donation will go towards a remodeling of the Howard Kany Memorial kitchen.
