FLY LIKE AN EAGLE
|
| These photos,
taken during the winter of 2003-04 by Bill Bentley of Jordan Shore
Drive, testify to the existence of eagles in the Tripp Lake area. Other
residents, including Rick Lundstedt and Dick Barry, have also verified
sightings. Where they nest, however, is still speculative; some say
east of the lake while others say west. |

It seems certain that two adult bald
eagles and two eaglets are in residence. According to Bentley, they
occasionally feed on frozen fish he’s left on the ice. A trapper and
wildlife enthusiast, Bill has also spotted coyotes, mink, raccoons and
beaver in the area.
The photos have
been forwarded to Charlie Tidd, a biologist with the Department of
Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, to help in his compilation of a list of
lakes where eagles have been spotted. Though no longer listed as an
endangered species, they should be protected and their territories
respected.
