CONDOLENCES

Our deepest sympathy to the families who have lost dear ones in the past season.

 Don Carroll, 85, father of Nancy (Carroll) Hutchinson and her husband Bob, and Ron and his wife Kathleen, passed away Dec. 11, 2002.  For forty years he owned and operated Four Oaks Dairy in Auburn. He’d summered with his wife Nell and their family at their camp on Jordan Shore Drive since 1922.  He’s also survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

 To John and Gail Quinn, on the loss of their daughter Karen Gauthier, 36, who died January 9 as a result of a car accident, our deepest sympathy.  Karen was a Facilities Assigner for Verizon with an office in Portland.  She leaves her husband, Jamey and their three daughters Kestle, Jadene and Doryann all of Poland.  She’s also survived by three sisters, Mary Perkins, Gail Comtois and Jennifer Rothernburg.

 Paul Kailey, 77, of Amelia Island, Fl, died Feb. 19, 2003 after a brief illness.  He was the father of Peter Kailey and his wife Nancy of Bethel, Cindy and her husband Mark Hiebert and Chris Kailey and his wife Denise.  Paul and Nancy have a summer home on Pond Road at Tripp Lake.  Mr. Kailey had been an outstanding skier, coach, athlete and outdoorsman.  He was also one of the pioneers in developing Sunday River Ski area in Bethel.  He also leaves his wife Jean, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 Capitola  (Cappy) R. Goss, 60, of Mechanic Falls passed away April 7, 2003 after a short illness.  The daughter of Julian and Dorothy Goss, she lived at the family home on Jordan Shore Drive until last year, when she moved to a retirement home in McFalls.  She’d worked at Tripp Lake Camp, the Poland Community School and had loved singing in the church choir.  She’s survived by Joyce Goss,  Harriet Strout and her husband Clayton, and sister-in-law Jeannette “Susie” Goss.

To Ruth Kaye Keene of Auburn and Tripp Lake on the loss of her brother, Raymnd Meserve, 80 of Ocala Florida, on May 7, 2003. Mr. Meserve was a WWII veteran honored by the US Holocaust Memorial Council in 1981 as a liberator of the Nazi concentration camps and also honored by the French Government in 2001 for participating in the liberation of France. Formerly from Auburn, he was the first full-time State Farm Insurance agent in Maine, working in the area for 27 years.
