LEWIS MURRAY BASS TOURNAMENT
|
| The first-ever fishing tourney was held at
Tripp Lake on Saturday, July 20, 2002, under the aegis of 14-year old
Patrick Kneeland, great-grandson of Lewis Murray, one of the original
founders of TLIA.
Patrick, an energentic and imaginative teenager who loves fishing,
came to me with an idea last summer. As he spoke, it evolved and grew.
He had a plan.
He writes: "Last year, I had an idea to have a bass tournament.
Well, that idea became a reality…a fishing tourney in memory of my
great-grandfather.

| Contestants met at my grandparent’s
camp,(Joseph and Marjory Kneeland’s) at 7:30 a.m., chatted, and
breakfasted on coffee and doughnuts. We also gave out bottles of water,
donated by Poland Spring Bottling Company. The Tournament was divided
into three groups, adults 18+, teens 13-17 and kids 12 and under.
Guidelines re: fishing limits and sizes followed Me. fishing law. All
fish caught were released. Entry fees were charged and all monies were
given back as prizes, the largest fish winning half the sum and the
balance divided between the next two winners. We collected $59.50.
The Tourney was over at 11:30 when everyone returned to weigh and
measure their catches. The winners were Skip Worcester whose bass
weighed in at 3.12 lbs., Rick Lundstedt who landed a 2.8 pounder and
John Hanson who caught a 1.11 lb. bass. Other smallmouth bass were
caught as well as a sunfish (a member of the bass family) caught by
Talia Rothfus..
Other participants were Arnold Leavitt, Andrew Crane, Paul Matz, Ed
Hanson, Joel Rothfus and children Anna, Talia and Drew Rothfus. Everyone
had a good time and was very appreciative of the tournament. I would
like to thank all who supported me and helped make this tourney happen.
Hope we can do it again next year!"
