Ivory Silk Tree Lilac, [Syringa Reticulata]. Zone 3; 20’.A very sturdy compact tree, which blooms at an early age with enormous creamy white flowers borne in long panicles. Very Hardy. Tolerates moist to well drained soils, wind and salt. Good for wildlife. Tolerates urban conditions and is useful under power lines.

Colorado Blue Spruce. This well-known landscape ornamental, sometimes used as a Christmas tree, has stiff, sharp-pointed needles about 1" long, ranging in color from dark green to silver-blue. It prefers moist, well-drained soil, full sunlight, and requires little shaping. Hardy to –40 F.

Norway Spruce. This is one of the faster growing spruces and is a native of northern Europe, where it is prized as a valuable timber tree. Noted for its pendulous branching habit, dark, shiny green needles and large cones, this species does better than other spruces on poor, drier soils but will grow in wet conditions. Prefers loam. It has a wide variety of uses in the US but has poor needle retention for use as a Christmas tree. Hardy to -40 F. Excellent for use in the park.

White Spruce. In addition to its popularity as an ornamental and timber species, white spruce is also popular as a Christmas tree because of its natural density and minimal shaping requirements. It does well in a wide range of soils. Hardy to -40 F. Native plant.

American Arborvitae. Often called Northern White Cedar, this scale-like, flat evergreen foliage makes a very popular tree for landscape, hedge and windbreak use. Does best in moist, loamy soil & partial sunlight. Its pyramidal growth pattern is easily shaped. Hardy to -40 F. Native Plant.

Balsam Fir. A longtime favorite Christmas tree due to its distinctive aroma, sturdy branches, symmetrical shape, and excellent needle retention. The Balsam has flattened needles about 3/4" long and is bright green on top. Grows best in moist, well-drained loam in full sunlight. Hardy to -40 F. Native plant.

Black Chokeberry. Has single white flowers in late May. Produces purplish berries in fall. Tolerates wet or dry soils and salt. Native plant providing food for wildlife. Size: 2-3’ Price $7.00

American Elder. [Elderberry] Fast growing up to 12’ in height, and spreads to 6 – 8’. Berries appear in late summer and are used for making jelly and preserves. Grows in all types of soil. Likes full sun. A good wetland plant and food source for wildlife.

Arrowwood Virburnum. [Virburnum Dentatum] Fast growing up to 15’. Prefers dry soil, and full to partial sunlight. Tolerates salt. Has a creamy-white flower in early June. Bears attractive blue-black berries. Native plant.

Black Walnut. [Juglans nigra] Fast growing up to 100’. Grows best in deep, rich, moist soil. Space 30’ apart for full, well-branched top. For timber use, space 8’ apart for straightest growth.

Bar Harbor Juniper. Does well in hot, dry soils and full sun. Fast growing with silver-blue evergreen foliage, height is 8 – 10". Excellent groundcover.

Blue Chip Juniper. Prefers hot, dry soils with full sunlight. Has a low, prostrate growth habit and excellent blue foliage color in summer and a purplish coat in the winter. Great groundcover.

Pachysandra. [Pachysandra Terminalis] Prefers shade. One-year plants cover area in 2 years. A 6’ spacing is recommended. Excellent evergreen groundcover in urban conditions.
