ANDY VALLEY RECOGNIZES TLIA

Twice in the past six months, Androscoggin Soil and Water Conservation District has recognized and publicized our efforts and accomplishments. In the May issue of its Newsletter, our Demonstration Project was described as an "unqualified success." In three seasons, 43 technical assistance visits were provided to property owners, with 14 installing conservation practices following the visits. Ten property owners completed projects utilizing grant funds.

Other activities noted were the planting project at the Public Beach with high school students and the purple loosestrife survey.

Our latest accomplishment, approval for a second grant to develop and implement a long-range lake management plan, was noted in the Fall Newsletter. It was unusual to grant a small lake, but our previous successes added to our "resume." We should be proud of our accomplishments, no small feat for a small but ambitious group.
