A Bit of History---The Meqguire Hill Farm

The beautiful farm sitting high atop Meqguire Hill, overlooking Tripp Lake, has been a working farm since it was built in 1791 and is believed to be the oldest in the area. (The Fernald Farm, just down the hill, was established a year later, in 1792).

It’s present owners, Peter and Kathie Bolduc and their three daughters, Anna, Emily and Sara, have lived there since 1991. It had been in the Meqguire family until the 1930’s and then was sold to a series of owners, the Stetsons, Cooks and Hales, until the Bolducs acquired it. They’re members of TLIA and are not unaware of the problems that farms can pose to a Lake. They use phosphorus-free fertilizer on their fields.

Originally a 300-acre farm, it’s down to about 75 but still has a decent collection of farm animals. The barn, Peter says, with its post and beam construction, is original but isn’t so sure of the main house. It also boasts an apple orchard, gardens, a "sugaring-off" house, land that runs across the road, down to Thompson , and a swimming pool.

It’s a gem, and we hope it will endure another 100 years or more.
